Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has apologised after facing criticism over a social media post claiming that the county government was undertaking repairs on a road in Runyenjes Constituency.
The controversy began after Governor Mbarire shared photographs showing road works on the Makengi-Kamuraru road in Gaturi North and indicated that grading and murraming works were underway.
Runyenjes MP Muchangi Karemba challenged the governor’s post, saying the road works were not being undertaken by the county government.
Karemba said residents had approached him over the condition of the road and that his office had sought permission from the county government before undertaking the maintenance works.
He maintained that the county’s jurisdiction over the road required his office to obtain approval before proceeding with the repairs.
Following the criticism, Governor Mbarire clarified that the works were being carried out by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority, commonly known as KeRRA, and not by the Embu County Government.
The governor attributed the earlier communication to an error and apologised, promising to improve the accuracy and verification of information issued by her administration.
The exchange between the governor and the area MP has attracted attention among residents, particularly over the responsibilities of national and county agencies in maintaining roads.
The incident has also highlighted the importance of accurate public communication by government officials when reporting on development projects.
