A man accused of assaulting a woman in Kamakis, Ruiru, has been placed in police custody for 14 days as detectives continue investigating the incident.
Isaac Ochalo was arraigned in court after his arrest and charged with assault causing bodily harm. He denied the charge.
Ruiru Police Commander Charles Kibathi said detectives were granted additional time to hold the suspect to facilitate further investigations and interrogation.
The suspect is being held at Gatong’ora Police Station during the period granted by the court.
Police reports indicate that the incident occurred on Sunday evening when Teresia Wambui Wairimu, a resident of Thika Town, visited her cousin in the Kamakis area.
According to the report, Wairimu became involved after a disagreement between her cousin and the cousin’s husband.
Police allege that the confrontation later turned physical, with the suspect allegedly assaulting Wairimu.
She was subsequently taken to Ruiru Level 4 Hospital for medical examination.
The incident was captured on video, with footage of the alleged assault circulating and prompting police intervention.
Investigators are expected to use the 14-day period to gather additional evidence and complete their inquiries before the suspect’s case proceeds.
The suspect remains innocent unless proven guilty by a court.
